Forward-Deployed Engineer
Embed inside an industrial operation and take agentic AI from a scoped problem to something running in production, against their records and their exceptions.
The work
What you will actually do.
- Own one process end to end. Discovery, scoping, design, build and rollout, on a problem narrow enough to finish and written down clearly enough to be measured.
- Work inside the client's environment. Their systems, their data, their constraints, alongside their engineers and the people who actually run the operation.
- Build against real records, not a sample. The formats are inconsistent, the systems disagree with each other and the exceptions are the job.
- Build the hard parts hands-on. Agents and tool use, retrieval over messy document estates, integrations against systems of record, and the evaluations that tell you whether any of it is holding up.
- Be the technical owner of the engagement. You carry the relationship with the client's engineers and their leadership, not just the ticket.
- Turn what worked into something repeatable. Patterns, blueprints and groundwork the next deployment can stand on, so the second one costs less than the first.
Fit
What we are looking for.
- Demonstrated ability to solve business problems with agentic AI. Not a reading list. Something you built, what it was supposed to prove, and whether it did.
- You write production code. Comfortable across the stack, in the client's codebase, to a standard you would defend in review.
- Hands-on with LLMs in production. Agent design, retrieval, evaluation and everything that breaks between a prototype and a deployment.
- High agency under ambiguity. You turn a vague operational complaint into a concrete technical plan, and you own what happens next.
- You can hold the room. Technical discovery with engineers one hour, a straight answer for an executive the next.
- Willingness to learn over accumulated credential. This field moves faster than anyone's experience in it, and we would rather have appetite than a resume that peaked.
Helpful, not required.
- Depth in an asset-intensive, regulated or document-heavy industry: aerospace and defense, energy and petrochemicals, or manufacturing.
- Prior forward-deployed, solutions engineering or founding-engineer experience.
- You have been on the receiving end of an enterprise procurement cycle and survived it.
